At Bugzeye, we understand that accuracy is essential. That's why we use the most common type of data obtained by drone mapping, which is photogrammetry. We fit our drones with high-resolution digital cameras to obtain hundreds or thousands of photos from different locations and angles of the site. Our in-house processing system stitches together these photos and creates a "3D mesh" model of the subject site. The model is provided in typical CAD formats and point formats, depending on the application. We can provide data in all standard file formats, ensuring that your design professional can use it as a base to create whatever plan, survey, or other documents they need for your project. Optional items including linework of improvements on site can be added to the scope as well.
Our drone mapping services are precise, with accuracies and precisions as good as the typical traditional survey. Our ground sampling distance (GSD) is no worse than 2.0 cm and can be adjusted up or down to meet your project requirements. Our tolerances are further reduced based on the quality of the ground control and check points provided. We make sure the data we provide to you is the best it can be by checking it against the aerial targets and a minimum of 20 check points across the site as set and located by your licensed land surveyor.
Bugzeye can also use LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), a method of obtaining mapping data by drone that is becoming more commonplace. LIDAR uses light in the form of a pulsed laser to measure distances to the earth. LIDAR produces a point cloud roughly the same accuracy as photogrammetry. The benefits of LIDAR start with the fact that the laser can penetrate to the ground through vegetation or other porous obstructions. This gives us the ability to provide data in areas that a photo would not. Processing of this data is much like photogrammetry and results in the same deliverable products.
